Original oil on box canvas, 30"x20" Weight before packaging; 1.8kg (4lbs)
This painting was created with the idea of capturing how light interacts with and through other objects. Particular attention has been paid to how varying kinds of glassware look and how each piece's shape distorts the light passing through it. I especially like how the piping on the wall warps according to the contours of the glass jug in front of it. The atmosphere I wanted to evoke in this work is a feeling that I am quite familiar with; the vacancy and drabness of a cold albeit clement winter morning, amplified by the fact that it is in a kitchen, arguably one of the more sterile domestic rooms. I still, however, wanted to present some life in the scene, or the sense that the place is lived-in, thus creating an effective juxtaposition within the work.
